Certificate III in Aged Care Work – (CHC 30102)

This course gives students a nationally recognised qualification to assist in working in the aged care industry including residential aged care facilities.
You’ll develop the skills you need to provide physical, social and psychological care for the elderly and people with intellectual disabilities in hostels, group homes and community settings.
The course also covers legal and ethical considerations, as well as identifying and responding to risk factors.

This course is available as a fee-for-service, traineeship or under the productivity places program. It can be delivered to individuals or groups through a range of models including flexible work based, facilitated learning or via correspondance.

All employees in the aged care industry are required to undergo a federal police check.

· 13 units of competency are required to complete this qualification.
· 9 units are compulsory and 4 elective units must be chosen
Note the ‘HLTFA301B Apply First Aid’ unit may be required to gain employment in the industry in some positions. This is the responsibility of the student and the cost is not included in this course.
Elective units are chosen from the unit selections in line with the actual tasks being performed in the workplace and in accordance with the needs of the individual, group or workplace.

Students will be required to undertake work placement as part of the course to ensure that the student is able to demonstrate and apply what he or she has learnt in an industry context. Work placement ensures the relevance of learning and assessment tasks and helps to produce graduates who are job ready and thereby increase employment opportunities.
Work placement also provides insight into particular job roles and responsibilities within an industry context. The student can find out if this is the right industry for them and whether they are right for this industry.
Workplace assessments and training must be undertaken in workplace organisations that are suitable for the course. The student must be under the direction of an appropriately qualified and experienced supervisor. The workplace assessments will be conducted by Access Training Institute Workplace Assessors, who will contact both the workplace organisation and the student to arrange mutually convenient times to conduct the workplace assessments.

Access Training Institute will assist students to identify work placement opportunities in an appropriate organisation however, it is the responsibility of the student to find and complete the work placement. In the event that the student has previously arranged a work placement Access Training Institute will check the suitability of this arrangement.
Access Training Institute will make reasonable efforts to organise for assessment to be conducted in the workplace however, the student may be required to attend assessment events at other locations.

Assessment is based on competency, that is the ability to demonstrate specific skills, and is undertaken through a combination of observation, discussion, written assignments, tests, and/or practical application and work related projects. On-the-job-assessment may be either undertaken in the workplace, or in a simulated workplace environment.
